My Experience Working With Basilissa Restaurant At Achimota Mall in Ghana

Introduction

Working at a restaurant in a mall felt good. I have worked at Basilissa Restaurant in Ghana for only one year. This restaurant has eight branches in Accra, including Labone, Achimota Mall, West Hills Mall, Dawenya, Tema Community 22, Dansoman, and Accra Mall.

Owned By

The restaurant is owned by a Korean businessman in Ghana, and it has accommodation in each branch except for Accra Mall. Before working at Basilissa Restaurant, one must undergo training at their main branch in Dawenya on the Tema Road.

Profession at the restaurant

As a waiter, I was transferred to work at their branch in Achimota Mall. Working in the mall was more fun because I could roam around, unlike chefs or cashiers who stayed in one place. The restaurant's goal was to invite customers to try their food.

What the Restaurant serves

Providing excellent customer service was crucial, given the competition from several restaurants around. Basilissa Restaurant offered a variety of food items such as pizza, burgers, pies, cakes, shawarma, beef rice, calamari, and fries. The place was busy during weekends and holidays but slower on weekdays.

Customer Service

Customers at Basilissa Restaurant were generous with tips, which were a significant source of income for waiters. Some customers even tipped after receiving food deliveries to their cars. However, not everyone tipped.

Busy Days

When the mall was crowded, DJs played music to create a lively atmosphere. The restaurant aimed to attract more customers during these times. However, the restaurant became dirty, especially during holidays like 26th and 1st January, and the car park became congested.

Challenges

Basilissa Restaurant occasionally had to order more food items from delivery services due to demand. Power outages were also common in the mall, but the electricity always returned quickly since all the mall companies relied on it.

The restaurant typically closed around 10 PM on a normal day and 12 AM to 1 PM on busy days. During concerts, the mall was even more congested, and robberies were more common. After busy periods, the restaurant staff cleaned the place before heading home.

Additionals

Basilissa Restaurant treats their staffs well because they give free food during launch and also give an amount of 250 cedis to their workers every 15th of month as transportation.

They also give incentives at the end of the month if the branch was able to hit a certain target.

The owner also gives gifts during Christmas as a form of appreciation and the love he has for his workers. They also do morning devotion every time before work begins. This is to dedicate the love of God to the work.

They also rotate workers, especially managers, supervisors, and sometimes cashiers as well. But for other staffs, their location is somehow permanent, not like the managers and supervisors.

But working as a waiter there can sometimes be stressful like going out to call customers and sometimes a bit dull during weekdays because the mall seems to be quiet.

Conclusion

In conclusion, working at Basilissa Restaurant in Ghana was an enjoyable experience, with its eight branches located in various parts of Accra. The restaurant is owned by a Korean businessman and offers accommodation in most of its branches.

As a waiter, the job involved providing excellent customer service, promoting the restaurant's diverse menu, and receiving tips from generous customers.

The restaurant faced some challenges, including power outages, congestion during busy periods, and occasional robberies. However, the management took care of its employees by offering free food, incentives, and gifts. While the job had its stressful and dull moments, working in the mall provided an opportunity to interact with various customers and explore the surroundings.
